I have never camped out for a console before, but after learning that Toys R Us had a stock of 10 Nintendo Switches, I decided to show up there around 7 AM on a Saturday morning. Even so, I was 8 out of 10 in line! This was my first Nintendo console since the GameCube in 2001. After a 16 year hiatus, I was once again roaming Hyrule, looking for the Master Sword and trying to save Zelda for the 5th time.
I really enjoy being able to switch between console and handheld mode, although I have been keeping it almost exclusively docked, as I prefer the big screen Zelda experience. The Pro controller also feels fantastic in my hands, with large buttons and accurate motion controls. I just wish the +/- buttons were not so close to the share/home buttons, but nothing is perfect!
The screen looks quite nice considering it is only 720p (mobile screens have spoiled me) but it does an above average job of displaying the vibrant colors of Zelda. I still think that it is a tad too reflective and with a respectable pixels per inch of 234. In my opinion, at the range you are looking at the screen, the PPI should be closer to 300+ but perhaps a Switch Pro could be introduced with a 1080p screen in the future. I could definitely make out individual pixels as well as aliasing in Zelda, but considering how amazing the gameplay is, this is quite forgivable.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, even if the left joy-con occasionally seems to desync if I hold it too close to my body. Perhaps I should contact Nintendo support for a repair? Even so, I would rate the system a 8 out of 10, deducting one point for the screen quality and 1 point for the desyncing joy-con issues.
